Kurt Rosenwinkel [guitar]
Peter Bernstein [guitar]
Alexander Claffy [bass]
Joe Farnsworth [drums]
“Rosenwinkel has staked out a singular position in jazz’s firmament as a player, composer, and bandleader with a vast and supremely sophisticated harmonic vision and melodic sensibility.”
– The New York Times
“Bernstein is a master of straight-ahead swing with submerged complexities, which is a way of saying that, while his music is advanced, the listener never feels shut out.”
– The Times (UK)
This meeting of two of the great guitarists in any genre—Peter Bernstein and Kurt Rosenwinkel—renews a rewardingly creative musical dialogue they started almost 30 years ago. While their styles are distinctive and well-known, they are also complementary and particularly rewarding when heard together. Bernstein “stands head and shoulders above the crowd,” says All About Jazz, “His tone and melodic approach are so recognizable as to be detected in just a few bars.” The Guardian says of Rosenwinkel, “His technique is amazing, using a seamless combination of single-line and chordal playing, and his harmonic ingenuity is endless.” The leaders are joined in a quartet by two of the best in bassist Alexander Claffy and drummer Joe Farnsworth. It is a group that should not be missed.
