Emma Hedrick is an award-winning vocalist, composer, and arranger. Inspired by Blossom Dearie and Cécile McLorin Salvant, Emma enjoys adapting English and French jazz classics. The Indianapolis native is currently studying vocal jazz performance at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami, under the direction of Dr. Kate Reid. In 2021, Emma was awarded the title of Presser Scholar, a prestigious academic and music based scholarship funded by the Presser Foundation. She received her 3rd and 4th Downbeat Student Music Awards (Outstanding Performance) at the University of Miami as a part of the Frost Jazz Vocal I ensemble and as an Undergraduate Vocal Jazz Soloist in 2020 and 2021 respectively. In 2019, Emma was a finalist in the International Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition where she placed 3rd. In 2018, Emma was a member of the Telluride All-Stars Ensemble at the Telluride Jazz Festival and last summer she had the honor of singing in the Aspen Summer JAS Academy directed by Christian McBride. Emma aspires to take her audiences through the story of each song she sings and strives to use the voice in traditional and nontraditional ways.
