Jazz may have a macho, straight-dude image, but the queer community has always been in the scene, and in some genre-defining ways. From Billie Holiday to Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn to Marlene Dietrich, we’ve always been here—so let’s celebrate!
On the eve of Capital Pride festivities, vocalist Addie Stan has put together a program of standards and torch songs that each have a queer connection of which you may not have known. She’ll be joined by some special guest vocalists from the community, and will have a killer band featuring David Jernigan on guitar, Steve Arnold on bass, J.C. Jefferson on drums and Leigh Pilzer on saxophone.
