Clarinet, Without a Net, the new album from clarinetist Seth Kibel, lives at the intersection of jazz, Americana, blues, and klezmer. It’s an encapsulation of Kibel’s distinctive, varied, and extensive musical career up to this point. All recorded live in the studio with two different bands, Kibel’s clarinet is accompanied by a startlingly diverse array of instrumental colors, including accordion, dobro, helicon (tuba), mandolin, cello, tablas, and more. Six original compositions showcase Kibel’s musical influences, including American roots music, Jewish klezmer, classical repertoire, and more. The four surprising cover tunes demonstrate the versatility of the clarinet in the hands of the award-winning Kibel. Featured are covers of the Rolling Stones’ classic “Wild Horses,” Carole King’s Brill Building breakthrough “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” the blues standard “Key to the Highway,” and the country ballad “The End of the World.”
