Your attention is acting as an active collaborator in the music making. And the intensity of experience is amplified when the performance is being recorded live; the collaboration documented for posterity. For the audience's part, it's more than the claps that make it on the record: like Freddie Green's 'wood chopping' during a swinging shout chorus, or Kenny Clarke's feathered kick drum, the audience's energy is felt if not heard and the feeling is electric.
