José André, Washington DC -based jazz pianist who taught himself how to play piano by the age of 4, is a musician who flavors his tunes with Latin rhythms and jazz harmonies. Anyone who has the opportunity to hear him play is amazed by his musical talent beyond his years. Despite his very young age he has already delighted audiences from prestigious festivals and venues world wide. Including his first international appearance in Sao Paulo- Brazil, and at age 9 his debute performance at The John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts. He has played to sold-out audiences in different venues and also performed in Italy, Finland, Malaysia, Colombia, Mexico and Canada.

José André leads his own trio in addition to engagements alongside with notable artists such as Marcus Miller, Jason Moran and Renee Fleming among others. Washington Performing Arts’ as part of the Mars Urban Arts Initiative presented José André and his trio, as part of a season-long series of events showcasing Latinx artists who live in Washington, D.C. 

José André is the winner of the 2019 VSA International Young Soloists Competition, a Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program that recognizes talented, emerging artists from all over the world. During the 2nd annual Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind “Lighting the Way” Gala, José André was one of the distinguished awardees recognized for his achievements and talent.

José André was one of five young talented jazz muscians selected to be part of the Peer to Peer Program from the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, sharing stage with renowned artist Bobby Watson.  José André is one of The Kennedy Center’s Next 50 leaders that, through his art is moving towards an inspired, inclusive, and compassionate world; lighting the way forward.
