No Fusion, No Confusion, the immortal words of Lou Donaldson, describes a period of Jazz near and dear to Marlin McKay. The Blue Note Era. Marked by a who’s who of jazz legends from Lee Morgan to Joe Henderson, Blue Note Records, established in 1939 by German-Jewish immigrants Alfred Lion, Max Margulis, and photographer Francis Wolfe, has been historically and principally associated with a particular style of Jazz referred to as Hard Bop.
McKay, who has been a staple in the Indianapolis music scene for nearly two decades, having performed with virtually every ensemble in city; covering a wide range of styles and genres, is known for curating some of the most intriguing and retrospective performances from his Good Mourning Project to his various appearances with the Indianapolis Jazz Collective.
Join Marlin and his new band, the Tastemakers, as they present a special program entitled, On My Radio, which will embark upon a musical tour of the classic sounds of Blue Note Records, hidden gems, and original compositions that journey into the vibrant sounds of NOW!
