Up Close and Personal
Mainstay favorite Barbara Parker returns for a very special evening of music, this time in the intimate, casual setting that seems perfectly suited to her music and personality.
Barbara is a gifted singer, songwriter and storyteller whose heartfelt originals and distinctive interpretations of familiar songs have made her a favorite with Mainstay audiences. Her music reaches back to the great tradition of the American coffeehouse, with touches of folk, country, blues and Americana and echoes of artists including Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, James Taylor and Patsy Cline.
For this performance, Barbara will be joined by her appropriately named Emotional Support Band, featuring Pres Harding on guitar, Steve Tremills on percussion and Brian Moore on bass, all familiar faces to Mainstay audiences. Rather than a traditional concert presentation, we’re turning The Mainstay into a relaxed, unplugged coffeehouse for the evening, bringing the performers and audience together for an up-close musical experience.
Expect a mix of Barbara’s original songs, some familiar classics, a few stories and the kind of easy musical chemistry that happens when good friends get together to make music. Barbara’s performances have always had a wonderfully personal quality, and this setting should bring that out even more.
