Wayne Linsey is a versatile musician, songwriter, producer, arranger and television personality who has recorded and performed with music legends. As a multi-talented instrumentalist, Wayne is best known as a keyboardist but also plays flute, guitar, bass and drums as well. He has worked on stage and in the studio with Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Earth Wind & Fire, The Jacksons, Chaka Khan, Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Babyface and many more. He joined Maze featuring Frankie Beverly in 1984 and appeared on every Maze recording since "Can't Stop the Love." With Maze, Wayne was known as "Ziggy" and his flute solo was featured in the intro on the classic song "Can't Get Over You." He's also performed with fellow keyboardists Ray Charles, Billy Preston and Herbie Hancock.
Wayne is no stranger to the jazz genre having written songs and recorded with the legendary Miles Davis. He was a pioneer of "smooth jazz" having written and produced for saxophonist George Howard as well as guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. He has also recorded with Stanley Clarke, Gerald Albright, Nancy Wilson, Norman Brown, Jonathan Butler and Marcus Miller to name a few. He gave his friend the name "Boney James" who went on to become one of the most popular artists performing smooth jazz.
Wayne has spent much of his career on television having performed on all the major awards shows including the Academy Awards. He was also a member of the house band for Wayne Brady's variety and talk show. He was an original member of The Rickey Minor Band, the last band for the Tonight Show With Jay Leno, where his comedic skills were recognized by Leno leading to an opportunity to be featured in numerous skits on the show. Currently, Wayne is still producing other artists and performing on television.
As a solo artist, Wayne's debut album "Perfect Love" was released in 1991 on Virgin Records under the group name "Linsey" with then wife Lynne Fiddmont. His solo album “A Song Without Words” on his own label Headrok Records was released in 2009. His latest album “Wayne Linsey presents…A Swingin’ Christmas” is available now.
