Melba Moore

After 50 years in music and entertainment, Melba Moore is a celebrated all-around performer, Grammy nominated five octave singer, Tony Award award winning stage actress, television and film star who continues to perform today to audiences all over the world!

Moore was destined to be a music and entertainment star as the daughter of big band leader Teddy Hill and singer Bonnie Davis who had a number one hit on the R&B charts with the song “Don’t Stop Now." Moore's first big break came in 1969 when she landed a major role in the cult classic "Hair" on Broadway replacing acclaimed actress Diane Keaton, and a year later starred in "Purlie" which earned her a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. After her success on  Broadway, she released two successful albums and received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. She also landed two big screen film roles and co-starred in a television variety series with Clifton Davis.

Moore had her first top 20 songs in 1976 with "This Is It" written by Van McCoy and a Grammy nominated cover of the classic "Lean On Me", and she had her biggest pop hit in 1978 with a cover of the Bee Gees' "You Stepped Into My Life." Her greatest success in music came during the 1980s with several top 10 hits including "Love's Comin' at Ya", "Livin' for Your Love", "Love the One I'm With (A Lot of Love)" and "It's Been So Long." Her music career peaked in 1986 with back to back number one hits "A Little Bit More", a popular duet with Freddie Jackson, and "Falling", one of her signature songs. After her last hit song "Do You Really (Want My Love?)" reached the top 10 in 1990, Moore joined an all-star cast of singers on a recording of "Lift Every Voice and Sing", commonly referred to as the Black National Anthem, which also reached the top 10.
