THIS EVENT IS FREE…
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This month, we stand together to support survivors and end the cycle of abuse.
Domestic violence affects people of all ages, races, and backgrounds. Abuse is about power and control, and it can be physical, emotional, or financial.
Don’t Talk To ME Like That was established in January 2016 as a Nonprofit Organization to help people escape all types of relational and domestic violence. My drive for creating DTTMLT was the urgency I felt following an attempted sexual assault against me, while at work. This person appeared to be inebriated and high on drugs; someone who wanted to take advantage of me just because I was a WOMAN. Ironically, thanks to the Will Downing song, “DTTMLTHAT” playing softly in the background on my computer the lyrics distracted my attacker. I was able to break free from my Attacker and escape what could have been far worse than the trauma I was experiencing at the time!
Don’t Talk To Me Like That works to break the cycle of assault and abuse while providing safety awareness, counseling and unique emergency shelter by assisting People (young and old) to identify resources to escape their attackers, and secure short-term and/or permanent safe housing that protect them and their children domestic and/or relationship violence. My desire is to help people from a place of pain to a place of security and self-care and end domestic violence by empowering everyone and building a community of support for those in need.
The network that I continue to create lets me know that DTTMLT is a viable resource to help people escape the woes of domestic and relationship violence and ultimately find freedom and build a healthy life for themselves, their children and those they choose to LOVE. No matter how violence or trauma against people (young and old) occurred, whether in a long-term relationship or on a first date, people need HELP and PROTECTION: a Safe Haven, a safety NET!
My goals for 2026, are to create more safe housing for people and their children to reside in and to provide resources and services such as counseling, therapy, financial management, job readiness and self-care. Another goal is to provide safety awareness seminars to keep adults and youth alike, safe from Human Trafficking.
