La Verbena de la Paloma, the most beloved Spanish zarzuela, is boldly reimagined at Friendship Park, sitting on the border between Mexico and the United States. This vibrant production affirms with music and poetry the power of the human spirit to transcend boundaries, featuring dance by Corazón Folklórico DC, mural art by painters from the Latin American Youth Center, and the famous score brought to life by actors, singers, and an instrumental ensemble evoking traditional Mexican son jarocho. Here, despite separation, cultures, lives, and spirits intersect, rise, and go on. Writer, Anna Deeny Morales, composer, Ulises Eliseo, and director Nick Olcott reveal the deep humanity of this
powerful work.
