SheBop Manouche

The SHEBOP MANOUCHE Violin Project SheBop Manouche is a project envisioned by bassist Cyndy Elliott to bring together women from the DC/Baltimore area who play in the uniquely swinging “hot club” style known as Jazz Manouche for occasional showcase performances. This year three outstanding DC area violinists will be showcased in a group modeled after Tcha Limberger’s “Les Violons de Bruxelles” with violinists Christine Kharazian and Jeanine Greene, Nataly Merezhuk on violin and viola, Christie Macdonald on guitar and Cyndy Elliott on bass. Featuring harmonically lush arrangements, the 2026 edition of SheBop Manouche will transport you to the Parisian café scene via the music of Django Reinhardt and many others. Please join us for what promises to be a fabulously swinging evening of music.

Christine Kharazian began her career in Armenia, performing with the Armenian National Opera Symphony and the Sharakan Ensemble of Armenia. Now based in the Washington DC area, she has appeared at the Kennedy Center, Strathmore, Blues Alley, and numerous embassies. Her collaborations span many classical and contemporary genres and traditions, including projects that combine music, theater, and storytelling. As a composer, her piece Valse Astolfi earned 2nd Prize in the international Unsigned Only competition.

Jeanine Greene’s earliest memories revolve around her father’s joyful life as a violinist and singer. He was her lifelong teacher, and she occasionally joined him playing with Chicago area musicians. After pursuing other careers abroad, she came to Washington DC and reclaimed her musical roots, joining The Tom Cunningham Orchestra and singing with vocal harmony groups. Now performing with the Django swing band Djangolaya, she sings many of the old French standards, claiming her late nights spent in Paris jazz clubs have served her well.

Nataly Merezhuk has fully embraced the role of the violin and viola in jazz following her extensive classical training. Originally from Russia and having attended the Moscow Conservatory, she also is a graduate of Peabody Conservatory. Nataly was a 2020 Artist in Residence at the esteemed Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda, MD and is a freelance orchestra musician and educator in the Greater Washington D.C. area, performing with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and many other groups. Influenced by the sounds of Stephane Grappelli and Svend Asmussen, Nataly brings her beautiful classical tone to the world of hot jazz and swing.

Christie Macdonald fell in love with guitar when she was 9 years old and has pursued the instrument ever since. A recent graduate of Towson University, she has studied under some of the very best in the area including Anthony Pirog, Dr. Shawn Purcell, and Troy King, while obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Guitar Performance. Christie has been an active player in the Baltimore area music scene, performing in many different genres, including rock/metal bands, folk groups, and countless jazz gigs. She has a wonderfully diverse group of students who she teaches full time. She sings and plays guitar in "Petite Fleur", a genre bending jazz trio, along with Annie Bailey on bass and Sami Arefin on guitar.

Cyndy Elliott has enjoyed a long career as a freelance bassist, performing many different styles of music in big bands, small combos, orchestras, and chamber ensembles, currently with Swingtopia, the Hot Club of DC, and Tango Reo, She also subs with a large variety of ensembles throughout the DC and mid-Atlantic region. Combining her love of music and travel, she has played bass on cruise ships in the Caribbean and throughout Europe. Various tours have taken her to China, Australia, the Netherlands, and every state except Alaska.
