Leigh Pilzer's Seven Pointed Star
Seven Pointed Star is one of the newest additions to the DMV jazz galaxy. Led by baritone saxophonist Leigh Pilzer, the personnel includes long-time DC jazz luminaries Amy K Bormet on piano and Amy Shook on bass, along with other DC jazz regulars, more recent newcomers to the local jazz scene, and special guest Sherrie Maricle (The DIVA Jazz Orchestra) on drums. The repertory features Pilzer’s arrangements of her own originals and those of other band members, selections from the Great American Songbook, and jazz standards. Individually, the musicians are members of such groups as the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, DIVA, 3D Jazz Trio, and premier military jazz ensembles. They come together in Seven Pointed Star to bring you an evening of music ranging from straight-ahead swing to more modern rhythms, joyfully performed with stellar musicianship and electrifying energy.
