THE CHI-LITES FT MARSHALL THOMPSON

The Chi-Lites were formed in Chicago in 1959.  Originally called the Hi-Lites, they consisted of Marshall Thompson, Creadel "Red" Jones, Eugene Record, Robert Lester, and Clarence Johnson.

In 1969, after signing with Brunswick, "Give It Away" became their first national hit single followed by "Let Me Be The Man My Daddy Was", and "Are You My Woman ?" which climbed into the R&B top ten in early 1971.  With their next release a succession of top ten hits followed including "(For God's Sake) Give More Power To The People", "Have You Seen Her", "Coldest Days Of My Life", and "Oh Girl" which reached the number one slot on the pop charts.

Other hits include "Stoned Out Of My Mind",  "Homely Girl", "There Will Never Be Any Peace", "Hot On A Thing (Called Love)", and "Bottoms Up."

The Chi-Lites song, "Are You My Woman", was sampled and featured on the Beyoncé  song "Crazy In Love" featuring Jay-Z on Beyoncé's "Dangerously In Love" CD. The song was later nominated for a Grammy award, and won the Hot 100 award for most weeks at No. 1.

The Chi-Lites song, "That's How Long I Love You", was featured on Jaz-Z's song "Dec 4" from his Billboard #1 CD - "The Black Album."

In 2000 the Chi-Lites were inducted into Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame, and in 2003 they were featured in the Miramax Films documentary "Only The Strong Survive."  The Chi-Lites also appeared with former lead singer Eugene Record on 70's Soul Legends concert which aired on PBS.
