"Under Paris Skies" brings the Gypsy Jazz of Django Reinhardt to life
Award-winning violin legend Tim Kliphuis (Holland) teams up with America’s rising star on gypsy jazz guitar Jimmy Grant (LA) to celebrate the music of famed musical duo, Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt.
“Django Under Paris Skies” celebrates the European gypsy jazz created in the 1930s and 40s. Find out the hidden World War II message in “J’Attendrai”, experience the melancholy of “Je Suis Seule Ce Soir”, and walk through the bustling streets of “Ménilmontant”: these wartime hits were sung by famous chansonniers Édith Piaf, Yves Montand and Charles Trenet. To top it off, the iconic waltz “Sous Le Ciel de Paris (Under Paris Skies)” – everyone knows it!
Drawing inspiration from Django jazz, current-day classical and folk music, Tim and Jimmy alternate moments of dazzling interplay with melancholy and sheer exhilaration, in an inspired conversational journey that is different every night.
