Please join us for the great Cuban virtuoso Manuel Valera. The acclaimed Grammy nominee opens Season 13 of PianoJazz DC.  A Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, Manuel plays an oversized role in the NYC and worldwide jazz scenes.  At venues and festivals worldwide, Manuel has  garnered national and international reviews while lending his talents as a pianist and composer to such notable artists as Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera,  Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and violin virtuoso Joshua Bell among many others. 

Manuel  has recorded 18 albums as a bandleader and is the recipient of numerous composition grants — most notably a 2019 Guggenheim Fellowship, numerous Chamber Music America’s New Jazz Works grants, the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, and  the Dranoff International Piano Foundation prize. He has travelled the world performing in more than 30 countries at some of the most prestigious international venues and festivals in the world.
