and more surprise guests perform both original and classic baseball songs
in a benefit concert with your singing host Geoffrey Himes

TONY DENIKOS:
Tony Denikos’ most recent release, “Under the Church," boasts 10 originals that blend personal storytelling and foot-stomping backbeats in a manner that reflects the influence of everyone from John Fogerty to John Prine, from Lowell George to Graham Parker. “’Under the Church’ goes to places both darker and more light-hearted than my previous releases,” Denikos says. “It allows me to claim my working class roots, reveal my small town disposition, and provide commentary on our current political climate. It may well be my best CD to date. I'll let you be the judge.” A grand-prize winner in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, Denikos performs both as a solo-acoustic act and with his electrified band, the Working Poor. www.tonydenikos.com

JAMES VON LENZ:
Whether performing as a solo artist or as a principal singer-songwriter in the much-loved Baltimore bands Ursula and Voodoo Pharmacology, James Von Lenz combines old, creepy Appalachian music, off kilter honky-tonk, murder ballads, yodeling, and down-and-out blues stomps. He claims his songs “have been filtered through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal, which imparts a distinct smoothness to the music.”

ALAN MACEWEN:
Alan MacEwen is the bandleader and founding member of the award-winning American roots quartet, the Grandsons. Now in their 25th year, the Grandsons have performed continuously since 1986, releasing 7 full-length albums. Alan is singer, guitarist, trumpet player and principle songwriter for the group. Apart from his primary efforts with the Grandsons, Alan has built a strong repertoire as a solo performer and has explored Caribbean music with his group, Sir Alan and the Calypso Pon  has worked as a sideman with artists including Ruth Brown, Howard Tate and Ronnie Spector. www.grandsons.com

ALAN ORESKY:
Alan Oresky is famed as the fiddler for such legendary Baltimore-Washington groups as the Fabrangen Fiddlers, the Fast Flying Vestibule and Jim Patton & Sherry Brokus. A frequent performer at the Roots Café, Oresky is able to mix and match his experiences in Klezmer, Celtic, old-time and Americana music to create a remarkably personal sound.
