UZIZI delivers an acoustic/electric mix of folk and jazz, spiced with world musical overtones and rock influences, both sacred and profane. The band includes a five-voice singing section with acoustic and electric instruments. This concert will include a new ten-song suite with projected visual art, along with other material from their decades-long career.
Reed Simon is an inventive jazz violinist most recently seen in the Hot Djang Quartet. Darren Frate, of Velvet Voyage, brings his lively fretwork on electric bass to the mix.
UZIZI is an eclectic musical adventure, full of melodic surprise and lyrical dimensionality. The life's work project of renaissance artist Craig Matis, songs may be balladic or anthemic, sacred or profane, deeply personal or declaratively outward-facing. Recent shows include projections of Craig’s neo-primitive visual art, illustrating the new ten-song suite “Crossing the Water.”
