Jeff Varga is an unassuming folk-styled, singer-songwriter who belongs to a seasoned class of artists, influenced by the likes of James Taylor, Cat Stevens and Paul Simon. Unlike the ramblings of those who write about horses they’ve never ridden and mountain tops they’ve never seen, Varga’s music is dipped in a classic brand of folk that values emotional and lyrical authenticity over populist style.
A favorite Cleveland-area singer-songwriter, Varga’s 40-year musical career includes 10-years in the New York City scene and numerous tours across Europe with various country groups during the Urban Cowboy movement.
He recently scored the award-winning short film “Burnt” by Lucia Apicella and has recorded six solo albums including the recently released, 7-song project “Back Porch Songs” (2012). An avid animal lover and horse enthusiast, Varga, when he’s not composing or performing, rehabilitates horses and supports the work of local animal shelters.
“With my writing, I want people to know that whatever happens, it can get better. There is hope,” says Varga. “It’s a three to five minute genre of telling a story and if you can get it right,” he says, “that’s when you’re making something great.”
