By day John Stirratt and Patrick Sansone sell thousands of albums, tour the world with indie juggernaut Wilco and lend their writing, playing and producing abilities to dozens of high profile recordings. But by night these renowned pros are able to sit down, relax and create something special that comes straight from the heart of why they pursued music as a career – and that’s The Autumn Defense. For the past 12 years this pair of Southerners-turned-Chicagoans have quietly been nurturing their own brand of reverent, classic pop, full of lush melodic textures, invitingly delicate pop arrangements and frequent nods to the AM gold, soul and rock radio that dominated the group’s formative years. They are joined on stage by their longtime drummer, Greg Wieczorek, who, as well as playing with Norah Jones and The Candles, has toured and recorded with the Stirratt and Sansone since 2000. Bassist James ‘Hags’ Haggerty. (Blues Brothers Band, Josh Rouse) has occupied the bass chair since 2005. Both bring their years of experience in New York and Nashville to the Autumn Defense’s vibrant live show. This is one evening worth journeying out for.
