John Tolle

John R. Tolle plays alto and soprano sax and flute.  He has been playing sax since 4th grade. He has played at Twins with the Tuesday Project and various JBM groups.  In fact, he met all of the members of the group through JBM groups.

John Howard, piano, matriculated full-time at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he received the Andy Griffith Scholarship and was a Johnston Scholar. He received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance in 1989. John played in the UNC jazz band and had the opportunity to perform with cellist and jazz educator David Baker, drummer Louie Bellson, and trombonist Al Grey of the Count Basie Orchestra.

John has taught music at Edmund Burke School in the District of Columbia since 1989. His bands have performed at Blues Alley annually for over 14 years. They are founding performers of the Big Band Jam on the Mall, appearing every year since inception in 2004.

John performs with his group Takoma Jazz Duo/Trio, Mad Dog Jazz, and Jazz Band Masterclass.

Jeff Seigle, guitar,  begged his parents for an electric guitar at age 7. After spending 10 years in basements and garages honing songs by the Stones and Cream, he developed an interest in jazz. As a Computer Science major at the University of Michigan, he spent a year in the University Jazz Band under trumpeter Louis Smith, as well as other university groups, local musical productions, and a cover band with a Chicago-style lineup. Jeff rekindled his love of jazz in the 2000s when he started attending Maryland Summer Jazz and the Jazz Band Masterclass workshops, where he first met John Tolle. Jeff is now experimenting with a guitar synthesizer and is also one-third of the String Theory trio.

Greg Discher, drums, has been playing drums since his youth.  He gigs around the D.C. area and plays in one of the JBM audition bands.

Herb Nachman, bass, has been playing bass for awhile.  He plays in a variety of groups in the D.C. area, including the Bob Schwartz Quartet
