The Impressions are one of the greatest and most influential vocal groups in popular music history. They sold more than 60 million recordings worldwide, mostly during the 1960s when their music captured the spirit of the civil rights movement. Led by their legendary lead singer and songwriter Curtis Mayfield, the group had a string of major hit songs during that era including “It’s All Right” (#1 R&B, #4 Pop), “Keep On Pushing” (#1 R&B, #10 Pop), “Amen” (#1 R&B, #7 Pop), “People Get Ready (#3 R&B, #14 Pop, Grammy Hall of Fame), “We’re A Winner” (#1 R&B, #14 Pop) and “Choice Of Colors” (#1 R&B, #21 Pop). After Mayfield left to pursue his successful solo career, the group continued to perform and record in the 1970s with original members Fred Cash and Sam Gooden joined by Reggie Torian, and topped the music charts again in 1974 with “Finally Got Myself Together” (#1 R&B, #17 Pop).
The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, and also inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and honored by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation with a Pioneer Award. In recent years, the group has toured around the world performing at major events including a Curtis Mayfield tribute at Carnegie Hall and the MLK Memorial Dedication in Washington, DC.Their show features original members Cash and Gooden joined by new singer Jeremy Purifory performing all of the Impression’s classic songs plus Mayfield’s solo hits, which collectively are among the most memorable songs of our time!
