Join us for an evening with vocalist Abby Schaffer and her jazz ensemble, playing the swinging, sophisticated works of Cole Porter, the smooth bossa nova of Jobim, and the mood-capturing classics of DC's own Duke Ellington -- as well as a selection of original tunes, and jazzified covers of pop classics, from the Beatles to Beyoncé -- to set a Valentine's Day mood.
Abby's melodious voice flows from the sultry blues to bell tones, tugging on audience's heart strings, as her rhythmic song choices and creative interpretations keep toes a-tappin' in the aisles. Featuring the talents of Michael Graham, Sean Pietras, Will Layman & Jack Spitz.
Abby & ensemble have played DC's JazzFest, and she released an original CD in 2016, "Play Along," available on iTunes, Amazon and on disk. Her music has been featured on NPR's "Capital Soundtrack," TV DCW50's "Opening Acts," and on "The Soundline" at 96.7 WERA, and has had a recurring feature in "Brightest Young Things."
Abby performs at DC's top jazz clubs, including Twins Jazz and Columbia Station, and has headlined such events as the Intergalactic Speakeasy. She has performed at venues from the National Mall to the Superdome, from Pittsburgh's Carnegie Hall to the radio airwaves of Burning Man.
