A ‘Manacá’ is a flower originated in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. It is also a painting by Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral, one of the most important women leading Brazil’s modernist art movement in the 1920’s.
‘Manacá Brazilian Trio’ is a music project led by DC-based singer Marcelle Pena and pianist Victor Lepri, both born and raised in Brazil.
Marcelle is originally from Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, where she started developing her passion for Brazilian music and singing. Based in D.C. since 2018, she has been impressed by the cultural and musical vibrancy of the city.
Victor is originally from Londrina, state of Parana, where he studied Music at the State University of Londrina. He is passionate about jazz and musical exchange. He recently moved to the Washington D.C. area for his master’s in piano jazz.
They will be joined by American drummer Kevin Rogers, born and raised in the D.C. area and a Music major at the Montgomery College.Join this intimate show where they will perform classic Brazilian bossa nova, samba and jazz tunes by Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, João Bosco and others.
