International recording artist and contemporary jazz saxophonist Art Sherrod Jr is a native of Palestine Texas, which is a small rural town located in East Texas and noted as the place where Art’s musical journey began. Since both of Art’s parents were active in music at the church, he was easily persuaded to join the South Union Baptist Church Choir at the age of 5 and the Palestine Middle School Marching Band at 13, which is where he received his fundamentals in music. By the time Art graduated from Palestine High School he had received numerous awards and was recognized as an All-Area, All Region and All-State Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophonist in addition to being chosen as an alternate to the McDonalds All-American Band.
After attending the United States Naval Academy, Art set sail and began his solo career as a performer and recording artist. Since then he has had the opportunity to travel the globe with some of his most memorable performances opening up for President Barack Obama and performing on the Brazilian American Jazz Festival in Rio Di Jeneiro. Art has also had the opportunity to perform with, open, and/or co-headline shows with Natalie Cole, Boney James, Sheila E, Kenny Lattimore, Phil Perry, Will Downing, Kim Waters, Chuck Loeb, Marion Meadows, Chante Moore, Jeff Golub, Gerald Albright, Peter White, Euge Groove, Brian Culbertson, Eric Darius, Roy Ayres, Everette Harp, Bob Baldwin, Najee, Michael Henderson, Norman Connors, Cuba Gooding & the Main Ingredient and a host of others.
