Ryan McGeorge

Returning to DC after relocating to Nashville, Ryan McGeorge celebrates the release of his debut solo album with a special night at Blues Alley, reuniting with a talented all-star lineup of DC musicians who performed on the album for a unique performance of joyful music making. After a 20-year career with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, McGeorge steps into the role of band leader with a new personal project bringing the euphonium - an unusual voice in jazz fusion to the forefront, expanding its capabilities through electric guitar effects pedals for a fresh, modern sound. About the album Kuranes: This collection of music was ultimately inspired by H. P. Lovecraft’s short story Celephaïs, in which the protagonist, Kuranes, comes to exist entirely within the reality of his own dreams. In that fantastical, almost alien realm, he moves freely through breathtaking landscapes and distant villages, crowned king of a world shaped by imagination rather than circumstance. The story compelled me to look more closely at my own waking life and to treat seemingly ordinary moments, objects, people, and places as portals rather than solely physical manifestations. This album is an invitation to reimagine your daily life, and step into another way of perceiving your own reality.

Ryan McGeorge is a multi-genre Euphonium player and composer recently based in Nashville, TN. As a former member of “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band in Washington, DC he performed extensively in chamber, solo, and jazz settings, introducing Jazz Euphonium to the White House where he performed for countless dignitaries. His work has been featured at numerous International Tuba and Euphonium Conferences and festivals, and he has appeared as a guest artist with prestigious ensembles including the U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble.

Ryan is known for expanding the expressive role of the euphonium through original compositions, improvisation, and the use of electronic effects. His work explores texture, timbre, and genre blending approaches drawn from jazz, fusion, rock, and experimental music. He has contributed as an arranger and composer to award winning recording projects and has performed across a wide range of collaborative and solo contexts.

Following his transition from military music, Ryan is re-exploring his creative identity and artistic direction. He is currently preparing the release of his debut solo album, Kuranes, a jazz fusion collection of original compositions and arrangements for Euphonium with electronic effects and rhythm section, scheduled for release in 2026.
