Rhonda Robinson-Bob Butta Quartet

Rhonda and Bob have been talking for years about teaming up. Just in time for this birthday celebration, their schedules finally have allowed it!! They'll be cooking up some very special musical dishes to offer the audience!!

You may have seen her recently behind the bar and as emcee for our shows. However, Rhonda Robinson (vocals/flute), is a mainstay as a performer in the Baltimore/Washington music scene, interpreting classic American jazz standards as well as new material, bringing a fresh and "progressive edge" to the timeless material. Last year, as part of Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts’ Free Fall Baltimore series, she presented her cabaret jazz show, “Jazz Crept Into My Life" at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center in a program that included storytelling as well as song. She has performed with Carl Grubbs, Benito Gonzalez, Gary Thomas, and opened for Amiri Baraka's Blue Ark Quartet. The Rhonda Robinson Quartet has performed at numerous venues such as An die Musik, Keystone Korner, Alice's Jazz and Cultural Society, Johns Hopkins University, Lexington Market, Billie Holiday's 100th Birthday Celebration, Federal Hill Jazz and Blues Festival and many more.  For over 7 years, she was the featured vocalist for Jazz Vespers at Holy Comforter Church. She has sung for over 20 years with Peabody Conservatory choral ensembles and Joyous Voices carolers. She enjoys the emotional alchemy and healing that the music produces.

Pianist Bob Butta long ago established himself as a pianist deserving greater recognition. The Baltimore icon possesses a deep knowledge of jazz history, masterful technique, exhibited in roles as a versatile sideman for legends like Stanley Turrentine and Woody Shaw. He is a quintessential "jazz pianist's jazz pianist," with a playing style that reflects the influence of masters such as Red Garland, Bill Evans, and Thelonious Monk. The great pianist George Colligan was greatly influenced by and learned from Bob as a young pianist.

Bassist Rayah Thomas has been nationally recognized by organizations such as Youngarts, The Vail Jazz Foundation, and Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington Competition. She has performed across the U.S. and internationally and has had the privilege of playing in Carnegie Hall's NYO Jazz, The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra. Ms. Thomas is currently pursuing her undergraduate performance degree at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

Jesse "Jay" Moody, drums/percussion, has over 35+ years of professional playing experience.
Jay has performed for two US Presidents: Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. He has recorded on many albums including his own, Notes from the Family, in 2017. Jay has received many awards and in 2014 was recognized for his contributions in music by the House of Representatives, State of MD, and Baltimore City. Jay has performed with Dionne Warwick, Eddie Levert, Cyrus Chestnutt, Benito Gonzalez, and many others. He has performed on local TV shows, including a role in the Barry Levinson movie, Avalon.
