Enjoy an afternoon of light opera and classic theater on Sunday, April 28, 2019, when New Dominion Chorale presents Gershwin and Friends. The concert will feature romantic and comic favorites from Desert Song by Sigmund Romberg, Naughty Marietta by Victor Herbert, The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar, and irresistible melodies from Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Gershwin. Led by the Chorale’s Artistic Director Thomas Beveridge, the concert will feature internationally acclaimed pianist Thomas Pandolfi, as well as soloists Sara Sheffield and Matthew Irish with the 175-voice New Dominion Chorale
Thomas Pandolfi, who will perform as soloist in the dazzling Rhapsody in Blue, has performed throughout the United States and has toured extensively in Eastern Europe and China. His vast repertoire includes all of the standard piano concertos and his recitals specialize in the music of Chopin, Liszt, and George Gershwin.
Baritone Matthew Irish has conducted at the Kennedy Center, delivered the National Anthem on the White House lawn, and performed in a variety of venues across the country from New York City to Hollywood during his 18 years with the US Air Force Singing Sergeants. Mezzo soprano Sara Sheffield became the first female vocalist with the US Marine Band in 2005 and was named a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Mid-Atlantic Auditions.
The concert will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center, 4915 East Campus DR, Alexandria, VA 22311. Parking is included in the adjacent garage on the NVCC Alexandria campus.
