Bergthor Pálsson completed his master’s degree in Voice from Indiana University in 1987 where his principal teachers were Roy Samuelsen, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni and Virginia Zeani. He was engaged for three years after that at Pfalztheater, Kaiserslautern where he sang for example the role of Count Almaviva in “The Marriage of Figaro” and the title role in Don Giovanni by Mozart and Malatesta in Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale”. Since 1991 he has mainly sung at The Icelandic Opera, among many other roles Papageno in Mozart’s “Magic Flute”, Germont in Verdi’s “La Traviata, Pinkerton in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”, Marcello in Puccini’s “La Bohème” and title role in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin".He has also appeared as a soloist with The Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and The Chamber Orchestra of Reykjavik. His oratorio roles include Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion, St. John’s Passion and The Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Creation and Seasons, Orff’s Carmina Burana and Mozart’s Requiem. $100/buffet
