They perform throughout the community at elementary and middle schools. They have also performed at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival held in Rockville. In March, they traveled to New York City to perform for clinicians from Long Island University.

The James Bazen Big Band is an exciting 18 piece ensemble that features some of Washington, DCs best musicians, soloists and vocalists. The band is influenced not only by the straight ahead jazz of Gordon Goodwin, Stan Kenton and Rob McConnell but also the more contemporary stylings of Bob Marley, Santana and Gospel. The James Bazen Big Band has been together since 1990 and has performed for many prominent organizations and establishments. In addition to James on saxes/flute/clarinet the instrumentation includes drums, percussion, bass, keys and guitar.

Janine Carter was introduced to Gospel, Jazz and Blues at a very early age by her parents and grandmother. This Pennsylvania native cannot remember a time when music was not a part of her very existence. She began her musical journey like so many contemporary artists as a member of the choir at her church in Aliquippa, PA. She also had the opportunity to expand on her solo performances as a member of the Bach Choir of PA which performed some of Broadways most exciting musicals. Janine continued to use the gift she was given to perform at various functions and special events until she relocated to the Washington, DC Metropolitan area in the summer of 1988. During the summer of 1996 Janine performed her debut concert in the DC area at New Genesis Baptist Church; this celestial songbird has been flying ever since.

Her poignantly warm, rich, soulful voice lovingly and profoundly penetrates the soul of all who are blessed to hear her. From the first note, the listener becomes spellbound, not only her voice, but her delivery captivates. (Dr. Diane Brenda Williams)

Retaining its original lineup of reeds, two guitars, accordion, upright bass and no drums, this is the bands fourth release for Mack Avenue Records. Different sounds coming together, band members collaborating from different cities: all of this makes Junction the perfect album title. It's a nice mix of pop-oriented material and also rather avant-garde stuff, Brady concludes. I remember an interview with Marc Ribot, my favorite guitarist in the world, talking about how avant-garde and pop have a lot of crossover, and even some of the musicians are the same people, like Marc himself.

Shaun Murphy found her way to the Blues stage in 1969 at the first Ann Arbor Blues Fest, and was completely smitten. Solidified into the Detroit music scene, she landed a recording contract with Motown Records, to record the album Stoney And Meatloaf. Then, with Bob Seger she headed back to the music scene she was so familiar with: Detroit. She went to Montserrat to record the BG's on Eric Claptons Behind The Sun album. Back on the road with Seger, she met up with Bill Payne and Fred Tackett, two of the members of the legendary band Little Feat. She joined as a full member in 93, and for the next nearly 16 years, it was her home. Nominated for Best New Artist by Bluesblast for her first CD, Livin The Blues, she combined a litany of Blues themes on her second CD, Trouble With Lovin.

Hailing from Osaka, Japan, the Hammond organist, Akiko Tsuruga has been a mainstay in the New York jazz scene since 2001. This talented young organist began playing the organ at the age of three and launched her career in jazz immediately after graduating from the Osaka College of Music. While living in Osaka, she had the opportunity to play with numerous world-renowned jazz musicians from the United States, such as Roy Hargrove, Jeff Tain Watts, and Grady Tate, to name just a few. Grady Tate, in particular, had the strongest influence on her decision to become a professional musician. Along with her teacher, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Akiko considers him to be one of her greatest mentors, and perhaps the musician she admires the most. Grady performed on her Japanese debut album and also convinced her to move to the United States.
