So come enjoy a great night of music plus meet and greet both Dexter Wansel and Teri Woods!
Dexter Wansel pursued his interest in music while growing up in Philadelphia, and as a teenager, performed in his first band with best friend Stanley Clarke. He developed talents as a keyboardist who mastered the new synthesizer technologies introduced in the early 1970s. He began performing and recording with MFSB and then working with other great artists after signing with Philadelphia International Records. He also established a songwriting partnership with talented lyricist Cynthia Biggs on many hit recordings at the famous label. In 1976, he released his own album "Life On Mars" that was groundbreaking in its use of synthesizers to create experimental new sounds and arrangements. During his brilliant music career, Wansel produced, wrote, arranged and performed on numerous hit recordings for all the legendary artists mentioned above and so many others including The Jacksons, The O'Jays, The Stylistics, Donny Hathaway and Grover Washington, Jr.
Marilyn Ashford-Brown is a Washington, DC native and internationally known singer-songwriter and recording artist with five albums to her credit. She has performed in the U.S. and abroad in Europe including Germany, Amsterdam and the U.K. Marilyn has an established working relationship with Dexter Wansel that extends over 25 years and included recording projects with Lou Rawls, Grover Washington, Jr. and Pieces Of A Dream, all written and produced by Wansel and Cynthia Biggs. Her vocals have often been compared with that of the late great Phyllis Hyman.
Damon Williams was one of the last artists to sign with Philadelphia International Records, but unfortunately, the company folded before he recorded with the famous label. However, his loyalty and determination have made him a regular performer and protege of Dexter Wansel. He has performed with Wansel for many years, singing the music of legendary artists including Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls and McFadden & Whitehead.
