Exploring Monk & Other Interesting Music
Warren Wolf & Kris Funn
The most collaborative work, within the jazz world, between a vibraphonist and bassist lasted for 40+ years within the
the Modern Jazz Quintet (MJQ) between Milt Jackson and Percy Heath. In my Be Mo Jazz / East River Jazz work, these past nine years, I've presented Warren and Kris within the same ensemble and otherwise. They, along with saxophist Craig Alston, percussionist John Lamkin III, pianist Allyn Johnson and others, have presented many hours of innovative music. I believe this duet will offer something special as well.
Perhaps in this performance, honoring the work of Thelonious Monk, they'll explore work he and Jackson recorded together in Monk's first sessions as a bandleader recorded between 1947 and 1952, Or, perhaps, they'll offer some original music of their own.
